The Project
Our clients had recently moved into this traditional stone family home near Bourne, in Lincolnshire, and were looking to create a home that was even more spacious to suit their needs. Although large, the existing house felt quite divided, and lacked a ‘flow’ from the kitchen to the dining area, with our experience in interior design as well as architectural, we were able to help our client not only extend their property, but also reimagine the interior to suit their lifestyle.

Open Plan
The proposal introduced a single storey rear extension, which would create a spacious kitchen/living/dining area. Open-plan kitchen extensions are always high in demand as they allow for a smooth transition between the kitchen, which is often the heart of the house, and the dining/living area. This single storey kitchen extension incorporated large doors and windows to enable our clients to make the most of the wonderful view overlooking their garden and the open fields beyond.

Redesigning the Interior
Despite the desire for open plan kitchens and living spaces, it is also beneficial to incorporate some areas of separation for growing families, so every member of the family has the chance to wind down! The existing kitchen, which originally lies at the front of the house, has been separated into two room, an extension for a larger utility area, and a still spacious snug/cinema room. We think that this was a perfect use for the space as a growing family can always use a larger utility area for storage of muddy shoes, especially in the Lincolnshire countryside, and the addition of the snug creates a space that can be used by any members of the family when they need some time to breathe! The architectural design and interior re-design will be a massive change for this growing family!
