The Project
We were contacted by our clients in the early stages of their purchase of a bungalow that had the foundations to become their dream home! Down a quiet cul-de-sac near the bustling town of Mablethorpe, this existing bungalow sits on a generous plot (so we knew there was scope for an extension) but needed a lot of work to become the modern home our clients were looking for. Another home transformation was on the way to turn a tired bungalow into a striking seaside paradise! We knew that this was going to involve a well-thought-out design to maximise the space available inside as well as create a contemporary and eye-catching home from the outside, but we don’t shy away from a challenge.
Interior and Exterior Transformation
Our clients knew that they wanted their home to have a large open plan kitchen and dining area, alongside a spacious master suite, complete with a dressing room and ensuite. The existing bungalow already had a partially built extension, but this layout didn’t line up with the vision our clients had for their home, so we knew from the start that demolishing the partial single storey side extension was a must.
The bungalow itself has a generous footprint, so reconfiguring the existing internal walls to create the sought-after open-plan kitchen/dining area was achievable, but to make this space even more dramatic, we designed a wraparound rear and side extension and used some excess floorspace from the garage to establish our final design.
The final proposal offered a large open-plan kitchen/diner with an adjacent utility area and WC, a lounge area with a redesigned bay window – swapping the flat roof for a pitched roof, a large double bedroom with an ensuite, a study area, garage, and lastly the generous master suite, with a dressing room benefitting from a roof light to enable maximum storage space on each wall, and a large ensuite.
This design is an incredible transformation, and our clients were open to ideas on how they could incorporate what they wanted into the footprint of the bungalow internally, whilst still achieving the contemporary external appearance. We work hard to make sure that your new space works for you both visually and practically by always taking storage and furniture into account on our floorplans.
Submission to Local Planning Authority
This exciting extension and home transformation was submitted under a householder application to Local Authority and the decision is expected imminently. So far feedback has been positive, and we feel the design was an example of a refreshing change that a home transformation can bring.
Planning Permission Granted
This extravagant bungalow transformation has just this week been granted planning permission! We are all so excited to watch our clients breathe new life into this bungalow and make it their forever home. The next steps for our office are preparing the drawings for building regulation approval, then our clients are ready to undergo this transformation. This is definitely a project that we are excited to see through to completion.
